What looks like endless blue is built on structure, patterns, and constant interaction in diverse ecosystems. The SSI Marine Ecology Specialty focuses on understanding these foundations of marine ecology.
From how organisms are categorised and related, to how different habitats form and function underwater – you’ll explore the role of nutrients, currents, and environmental conditions in shaping an ecosystem, and how marine life behaves and interacts with them.
When these ideas come together, what once felt scattered and unknown will begin to make sense. It will be the same Ocean, only that you know it a little better this time.

Order of the Ocean
Prerequisites:
- Finishing reading your course material is mandatory BEFORE you arrive.
- That’s it! This Specialty Course is for anyone and everyone who wants to know more about the Ocean.
Medical Form:
Before you dive, you’ll need to fill out a medical questionnaire. It is a self-check of your eligibility to dive.
If you do need a doctor’s clearance, we will guide you through it! Download the form now.
Age Limitations:
- The Ocean doesn’t do age brackets for those who wish to learn about her deeply.
Price:
- We have three levels of pricing basis the type of course delivery:
- Self-study, a.k.a. course material only: ₹5,000
- Course material + a quick class: ₹7,500
- Course material + an in-depth session: ₹10,000

- We’ve got the essentials covered – study material, instructor charges, certification, and taxes.
- Travel, meals, & stay are additional expenses.

If this is a dry course, do I really need to come to the Andamans to do it?
- No, not really. The beauty of this course is how flexible it is.
- The theory session can always be done over a video call.
Can I add dives to this course? I want to dive with my Instructor…
- Yes, of course. While it is not necessary to dive to complete this course, it is definitely possible – basis schedule and availability.
- Fun dives will be charged additionally to the course
- If you wish to dive with the Instructor who taught you the Marine Ecology course, talk to us and we’ll help figure & plan your DIVEDays.
Where do I access my course material?
- On the SSI App – your forever dive buddy. Available on Android & iOS. Phones & tablets. Or even a good ol’ browser.
- Theory, logs, certifications cards…this is your diver flex app, essentially!
Can I postpone the class with the Instructor? If not, what is the cancellation policy?
- Here are the not-so-fun details, only applicable if you have NOT accessed the course material:
- Cancel one month prior, and you get a full refund.
- Two weeks prior? 50% refund.
- Less than a week? No refund, unfortunately.
- If you have, the refund will be calculated after deducting the amount for the course material.
- Point being – this is better dealt with on a case-to-case basis. Let’s talk!
