Both Havelock and Neil Islands sit in the same tropical waters, as a part of the same archipelago. If they were mountains, they’d be considered a part of the same range. Not two competing dive destinations but loving neighbours – one reef ecosystem, a short boat ride apart.
Yes, you will see different marine life on different dives, maybe on the same or vastly different sites. A turtle at one, a battery of barracudas at another, or a curious school of fusiliers swirling around you in nothing but endless blue at yet another site.
That’s not one island trumping another; it’s just the Ocean doing what it does best – being unpredictable, alive, and never the same twice!
So, why does everyone ask this to begin with?
Because on land, the story is indeed different.
Havelock is bigger – geographically and thus, in every sense that follows. There’s more people, more cafés, more spaces to explore. You can actually go out on a long drive, if that’s your thing (we highly recommend it considering the roads are flanked by serene forests on one side and picturesque turquoise waters on another).
Neil, in comparison, is smaller. And it seems quieter for that very reason. You can actually drive from one end of the island to another in less than 20 minutes. There are fewer options here and a lot less people, but it’s not limited to one or two places to chill at, if that’s what you imagined. And we believe the lack of options is the whole appeal here — if unbothered is the mood you are chasing on your vacation.
One island buzzes with energy, while the other one hums to its own rhythm.
And we don’t pick sides!
When we say, “it depends on you…”, we mean it quite seriously. ‘Coz we are located on both the islands! With the largest dive center on Havelock Island and a dive+stay facility, DIVEResort, on Neil Island, all your dive-vacay desires will be taken care of, to the best of our ability.
This debate has no right answer. Wherever your research lands you, or whatever pace of life calls out to you, the Ocean will blow your mind on either shore.
