Havelock is a fairly small island, but despite its size, it offers a large number of places to stay, mostly in the budget category, with a few mid-to-upper end alternatives. We are pleased to offer accommodation for visiting divers at our partner resort:
Island Vinnie’s Tropical Beach Cabanas
Nestled against the beach amidst swaying palm fronds, the resort offers comfortable, good value accommodation to suit a wide array of budgets. As wandering divers ourselves, we don’t like paying a lot for expensive hotels (especially when that money can be better spent on tank fills or scuba gadgets). However, we appreciate the value of something comfortable to come back to after a long day of watching fishies. And that is exactly the sort of accommodation we offer. It isn’t the cheapest, nor is it the most expensive. We feel it sits right on the “sweet spot” when it comes to value for money. Simply put – we’ve tried to make it the sort of place where we would choose to live in, were we traveling.
It seems we haven’t done too bad a job with it, as we’ve been awarded the
Trip Advisor “TRAVELLER’S CHOICE” award in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
We offer an array of services to make your visit more memorable: birding walks, fishing, snorkeling, email, movies, laundry, memory card downloads, DVD/CD burning, beach bonfires and more. And, of course, we have Frodo, Buffy & Leia, the dogs (who really, really, really want to be your friends) and Ninja the cat (who really, really doesn’t). What else could you ask for?
Full Moon Cafe : Top ranking on Trip Advisor
Our restautant, the Full moon Cafe, owned & run by Adil and Niamh serves healthy, tasty food in hearty-sized portions and at hours that are designed around the needs of divers. And it is fast developing a reputation as the best restaurant in Havelock – as echoed by its top ranking on Trip Advisor.
Our philosophy is value for money – we aren’t trying to offer the cheapest possible accommodation, nor are we trying to build a super high-end resort. We are geared towards people who want a comfortable accommodation and friendly, personal service while retaining the feeling of being in a remote and exotic tropical destination – but without paying 5-star resort rates. Of course, if you want to pay 5-star resort rates, you are more than welcome to pay us more – we are very flexible in that regard.
We aren’t a big resort, nor do we want to become one. We like knowing all our guests by name and fin size. And that way, everyone gets to have a hammock as well (and we don’t have to give up ours!).
For travellers on a budget, the Standard Huts are a very good option and a good alternative over other comparitively priced budget accommodation options (if we may so ourselves). These basic but clean huts come with decent-sized beds (sized for adult humans, for a change), ample shelf space and a fan.
What sets them apart from other budget accommodation is the attention we have spent on the common toilet/showers. Ours are tiled, kept clean and offer hot water showers – in fact, we are the only place to get hot water showers, period. Mosquito nets (or electronic mozzie repellants, if you prefer) are also available.
Please note that Standard Huts are only available in conjunction with a diving package or course. For non-divers, may we suggest a Tented Cabana.
|STANDARD HUT RATES PER NIGHT|
|Room only||Rs. 500|
|Single Occupancy – Room + All Meals||Rs. 1700|
|Double Occupancy – Room + All Meals||Rs. 2900|
We have upgraded some of the Standard Huts to include an attached bathroom, with open-roof showers and, in a fit of creative genius, called them Upgraded Huts. In other respects, they are the same as the Standard Huts above. For the budget conscious – especially those who, like us, think that a room is mainly for storing gear and sleeping – these provide an excellent value in rooms with attached bathrooms.
Please note that Upgraded Huts are only available in conjunction with a diving package or course. For non-divers, may we suggest a Tented Cabana.
|UPGRADED HUT RATES PER NIGHT|
|Room only||Rs. 1500|
|Single Occupancy – Room + All Meals||Rs. 2700|
|Double Occupancy – Room + All Meals||Rs. 3900|
These large and tastefully decorated Swiss-style (we have no idea why they are called Swiss-style, but they are) full-sized walk-in tents are of the same design as used by much more expensive resorts elsewhere.
Built on permanent plinths, these tents are decorated tastefully and exude coziness and comfort, with a lot of little touches which go a long way towards making your stay more enjoyable: plenty of plug points to make your life easier; ample storage space for your clothes; a balcony with rocking chairs for relaxing with a book; a powerful fan (no AC needed!) and electronic mozzie repellants (it works) or mozzie nets, whatever you prefer, and an en-suite bathroom (yep, hot water).
The rooms are not airconditioned, nor do we have any plans of putting in aircon. For starters, being beachside on a very green island, with minimal concrete development and lots of tree cover, means that even in the peak of summer, it is much cooler here than in cities (a fact we notice every time we leave the islands!). We get a cooling sea breeze in the day. And we have designed the rooms to have as much natural cooling as possible. The fan will provide more than enough cooling to let you sleep at night. So why boost your carbon footprint needlessly?
|TENTED CABANA RATES PER NIGHT|
|Room only||Rs. 3000|
|Single Occupancy – Room + All Meals||Rs. 4200|
|Double Occupancy – Room + All Meals||Rs. 5400|
