Visit the Cellular Jail Memorial

Yes, this sounds dark and depressing, and no, you won’t regret visiting. Formerly known as “Kaala Paani” (Black Waters), this was used by the British as a colonial prison for political prisoners. Visit the Memorial to understand the significance of the islands in India’s fight for independence. It is located at Port Blair, and is open Tuesday – Sunday from 8.45 am to 12.30 pm, and 1.30 to 5 pm. Admission costs are just Rs.10, and an extra fee of Rs.25 and Rs.100 for using cameras and video cameras respectively.

Bird Watching at Chidiya Tapu

Home to hundreds of species of birds, Chidiya Tapu is a tiny village, 25 km from Port Blair. This is a must-visit destination if you love bird watching. Spend a few hours in absolute tranquillity listening to birdcalls while you visit these parakeets, emerald doves, sea eagles and various other birds.

For that adrenaline rush, you have a variety of activities to choose from in the Andamans. Whether it’s parasailing, windsurfing, kayaking or water-skiing, Port Blair has some neat water sport complexes that you can visit, the most popular one being the Andaman Water Sports Complex.
